Secretary of State Michael Gove has approved plans for the next phase of a mixed-use regeneration scheme at Cambridge North which is a significant milestone in the continued regeneration of the publicly owned derelict former railway sidings land.
Following £50m of Government investment Cambridge North Railway Station opened in 2017. The station is also served by the guided busway creating a public transport interchange to support sustainable growth in the area.
The development is being brought forward by the Chesterton Partnership (a public private sector partnership) and will create an accessible and vibrant new urban district as a gateway from Cambridge North Station to the wider neighbourhood. A new office and a hotel have already opened.
The next phase will deliver 425 new mixed tenure homes and up to 578,000 sq ft (53,700 sq m) of new science and technology space and high-quality offices.
The development supports an urgent national and regional need for new homes and science and technology space as the Cambridge region and the wider UK looks to establish itself as a life sciences and technology superpower on the global stage.
Cambridge North will deliver essential space to support smaller local and larger national and international companies and is aligned with central government’s plans to encourage investment in Cambridge and support nationally important science and technology industries.
